Facts about Duo's Hair

Duo's hair has been long since he was a street urchin, in Solo's gang. The colony he grew up in was poor, so water wasn't wasted on such a luxury as washing long hair, which is why the other kids would tease him and say he smelled like a sewer. He didn't wear it in a braid until later, after Solo's death, when he was placed in the care of Father Maxwell and Sister Helen.
Sister Helen tried to cut his hair, since it was unkempt and "unhygienic", and he protested so much Father Maxwell allowed him to keep it, so she braided it for him.
He kept it that way, not only because "it makes it easier to move around" and "won't get in the way...," but also because it is a reminder of Sister Helen, the only maternal figure in his life.
